John completed his PhD at Rutgers University working with Jacob Feldman, Eileen Kowler, and Manish Singh. While at Rutgers he also earned a MS in Computer Science. He completed his first Postdocs at York University with Richard Murray, with collaborations with James Elder and Ingo Fruend. He then completed a second postdoc at the University of Toronto working with Sven Dickinson (Computers Science) and Dirk Bernhardt-Walther (Psychology). He is interested in how the visual system represents objects and shapes. His previous work has looked at shape detection, shape categorization, the perception of shape from shading, and classification image analysis for shape. His current works analyzes shape processing during viewing of real-world scenes, with a focus on symmetry. His works utilized fMRI, psychophysics, and computational analysis.
