Curriculum Vitae

Dirk is a new faculty member at the University of Toronto! Previously, he was an Assistant Professor in Psychology at the University of Ohio State from 2010-2014. Prior to that, Dirk studied physics, computer science, and computational neuroscience in Leipzig (Germany), Cambridge (U.K.) and at Caltech (Pasadena, CA). During his Ph.D. work at Caltech with Christof Koch he developed a Matlab toolbox to detect salient image regions (http://www.saliencytoolbox.net). After a brief stint working with John Tsotsos at York University in Toronto, Dirk spent most of his postdoctoral time as a Beckman Fellow at the Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with Diane Beck and Fei-Fei Li, learning to acquire and analyze fMRI data, in particular using multi-voxel pattern analysis algorithms.
